Biography
Inês Marques, born in 1997, began her violin studies at the age of four in her hometown of Guimarães, Portugal. After graduating high school in Filipa Abreu’s class, she started her university studies with Ilya Grubert and Eliot Lawson in Braga, Portugal. She then moved to Germany to study with Thomas Christian in Detmold and later with Daniel Sepec in Lübeck. Alongside her studies, she had the opportunity to work with renowned violinists such as Carolin Widmann, Gerhard Schulz, Tomasz Tomaszewski, Vera Beths, Martin Funda, Igor Gruppmann, and Timothy Summers.
Inês dedicates her professional time to orchestral, chamber music, and solo performances. She began her orchestral journey with the Portuguese youth orchestras. At 19, she was admitted to the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, and three years later, she became a member of the Gustav Mahler Academy. Professionally, she has played as concertmaster with the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, OWL Kammerphilharmonie Minden, and Orquestra de Guimarães and worked with artists such as Sarah Christian, Shai Maestro, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Stanley Dods, among many others.
Chamber music holds a significant place in Inês' musical life. Heime Müller and the Auryn Quartet played a crucial role in her chamber music studies. She has performed at festivals such as the Brahms Festival, Bolzano Festival Bozen, Voices Festival, and Festival Internacional de Música da Póvoa de Varzim as a member of its contemporary ensemble.
She made her solo debut at the age of 17, performing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto. Since then, she has occasionally appeared as a soloist, most recently having shared the stage with Daniel Stabrawa, former concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, to perform Vivaldi's and Bach's double violin concertos.
Currently, Inês is engaged as a freelance chamber musician, as well as a member of the Symphonieorchester Vorarlberg and regular concertmaster of the Detmolder Kammerorchester.
